Vortex

'Vortex' shows the last days of an elderly couple suffering from dementia. This is the latest project by director and screenwriter, Gaspar Noé. It features actors Dario Argento, Françoise Lebrun, Alex Lutz in the main cast.

The film has been praised by international critics. The Hollywod Reporter opines that "it feels like a more mature Noé has arrived, one who stays calmer and is less manipulative than Haneke was in Amour but with a similarly impactful ending. The handful of traces of the more emphatically on-the-nose filmmaker almost help to underline how reined in everything else really is. (...) Lebrun is quietly extraordinary in a role that?s stripped bare to its most essential elements, while Argento, too, is affecting".

For its part, Deadline defines it as "provide a bracing, depressing, realistic and altogether sobering insight into what your grandparents, parents and, one day, you will have to face if you live long enough; another way of saying it is that what Noé confronts us with is a universal experience. The jury might remain out for some time as to whether his two-camera approach brings something extra to the table or not, though the novelty definitely adds an extra and unusual layer of interest".

Finally, The Guardian says it is "one of the finest pictures" of the filmmaker.
