Plot
Considered one of the most expensive films in the history of Spanish cinema, 'Volaverunt', presented in the Official Selection at the 47th San Sebastian Film Festival, shows the historical hypothesis about the death of María Teresa de Silva Álvarez de Toledo, the Duchess of Alba, the richest, most powerful and liberated woman of her time. Exceptional woman, muse and patron of Goya and one of the figures that more aversion and rivalries provoked, like the one that had with Marie-Louise of Parma, wife of king Charles IV, the own monarch and, especially, the valid one of the king, Manuel Godoy Taking advantage of the inauguration of her new palace on July 23, 1802, the duchess invites a great dinner to the most renowned members of the high society, among which there is no lack of King Charles IV, Godoy, Marie-Louise of Parma, the painter Francisco de Goya, Pepita Tudó, lover of Godoy and one of the models of the painting 'La maja desnuda', as well as other figures recognized as the Duchess of Osuna or the actor Isidoro Máiquez. After the evening, the next morning, the Duchess of Alba, the most powerful woman in 1800s Spain, appears dead in her bed in strange circumstance in her 40's.
