Vieirarpad

'Vieirarpad' is a documentary that closely follows the leters that the loving couple Maria Helena Vieira da Silva and Arpad Szènes, famous painters, sent to each other between the years 1932-1961. In the film, its director, the Portuguese João Mário Grilo, explores the aspect of intimacy reflected in those letters using visual elements to achieve, through images, that same intimacy that, at first glance, seems unattainable. Likewise, Grilo exposes the image and identity of the 20th century in relation to the work of Maria Helena Da Silva and Arpad Szènes, marking the passage of time of a fluid era, although no longer existing. In addition, it also explores this aspect of time through audiovisual archives, iconographic elements of the painters' lives, expert testimonies, etc.

Written (with Inês Barreiros) and directed by João Mário Grilo ('Campo de Sangue'), 'Vieirarpad' is described as an "intimate visual journey" in which words are transfigured into images that try to achieve that imaginative and free quality.

Those in charge of achieving this visual intimacy are the directors of photography Acácio de Almeida and João Ribeiro.

Produced by Gullane Pictures and ZulFilmes, the film will hit theaters in Spain, thanks to Premium Cine, on July 17, 2024.
