Victor Victoria

'Victor Victoria' takes place in Paris in 1934. It tells the story of Victoria Grant Carole 'Toddy' Todd (Robert Preston), two artists that, since they can't get any jobs as singers, make a deal. Victoria is a British soprano that struggles to pay the bills, while Toddy works at a cabaret, but was recently fired. In order to avoid hunger, Toddy comes up with the idea of Victoria pretending to be a man so she can get roles impersonating women. He becomes her manager, gets her the parts and basically is in charge of her public relations. The plan, that seemed perfect, gets messy when Grant's success increases, which makes it hard to keep the truth hidden. Trouble multiplies when Toddy's ex, a bitter and revengeful man, finds them. In addition to this, an important businessman from Chicago (James Garner) falls in love with her and starts investigating, convinced that there has to be an explanation for the attraction he feels, since he believes it's impossible he has feelings for another man.
