Vermiglio

The plot is set in Vermiglio, a remote place in the Italian Alps, during the final moments of World War II. It is then that a deserting soldier arrives in the village, marking a turning point in the lives of its inhabitants. His impact is particularly significant on the family of the teacher. He watches as each member of his family heads toward an unexpected fate.

A story that focuses on those people who suffered the war despite staying out of it. Those women who were at home, the newborns who died from the cold, the women who had to live with fear of becoming widows, the parents who anxiously await the return of their children terrified that they may never come back, and the teachers and priests who act as fathers and mothers—these are the protagonists of a story about war in which there are no great battles or bombs.

'Vermiglio' has been directed by the young director Maura Delpero. After studying film and literature, she began directing documentaries that explored the boundary between fiction and non-fiction, which led her to gain recognition at various festivals. This is her second film following 'Hogar,' her first feature film. In this case, it premiered worldwide at the 81st Venice International Film Festival.
