Unfrosted

'Unfrosted' is an American comedy written, produced, directed, and starred by Jerry Seinfeld in his debut as a film director. The film is loosely based on real events about the rivalry between cereal companies Kellogg's and Post Cereal in 1963 to create a new breakfast product. The film premieres globally on Netflix on May 3, 2024.

The movie is set in Michigan in 1963, where two of the major American food companies, Kellogg's and Post Cereal, compete to develop a new breakfast product to bring to market. The result is the creation of Pop-Tarts, filled cookies that are heated in a toaster and become an extremely popular product in the United States, though less so elsewhere.

'Unfrosted' is a personal project for Jerry Seinfeld, which he had been looking to develop since 2010. It was the extra time during the pandemic that finally encouraged him to sign off on the script, which is completed with his debut as a director.

The result is supported by a vast ensemble cast with big names in comedy like Melissa McCarthy, Amy Schumer, Hugh Grant, Max Greenfield, Daniel Levy, James Marsden, and Fred Armisen, among many others. The film was shot in Los Angeles in early 2022 but its final released was delayed until mid 2024.
