Nana lives in the Philippines, but was born in Cuba's Isla de los Pinos (currently Isla de la Juventud) and had to leave her land at age 18 to cross the world and meet her future husband in Manila, the Filipino Marcial Lichauco. 'Under the banyan tree' is the portrait of a life full of experiences and memories that go from the Second World War to practically the present. Her house next to the Pasig River is full of old books, completely exotic ornaments, but also cats, dogs, stuffed animals, photo albums and a large banyan tree that is more than two hundred years old. All these elements are the background protagonists to the memories of her memory. Together with her and Carlos, a curious buffoon and historical guide from Intramuros, we will discover the history of an entire country and the traces that Spanish and North American colonization left on it, without forgetting the violent Japanese invasion in World War II.
