'Twisters' trivia and fun facts
Version proposed by Helen Hunt
One of the stars of the 1996 version, Helen Hunt, proposed a version of a sequel to Universal in July 2020. She proposed a story about the science team at a historically black university in Oklahoma using their own inventions to stop tornadoes. The actress wanted to direct and star in it but ultimately her idea was scrapped and canceled.
Same decorations
'Twisters' uses the same sets as other films such as 'The Moon Killers' and 'Tulsa King', shot in central Oklahoma.
Change of location
The shooting location was intended to be in Los Angeles, but the director decided to change it to Oklahoma, as happened with the original film.
First proposals
The sequel had been planned years ago by the leading actor of the previous film 'Twister', Bill Paxton, together with producer James Cameron. They tried to bring it out in 3D version in 2012, but it was cancelled due to budget problems. After Paxton's death in 2017, the film was not picked up again until now with Lee Isaac Chung as director.
References to the El Reno Tornado
The second trailer of the film shows a water tower that makes reference to the largest tornado ever recorded, the one on May 31 in El Reno, Oklahoma. A place where several people died while investigating these meteorological phenomena and which is the setting of the film.
New characters
Despite making references to the original film, the story will be new and the previous characters will not appear.
