Plot

'Twisters' continues the story of the previous film almost with the same title, 'Twister', the movie about the most destructive atmospheric phenomena. This time, new characters will experience it 20 years after the discoveries made by scientists Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton. Kate Carter, a former storm chaser played by Daisy Edgar-Jones ('Normal People'). Tyler Owens, a meteorologist-influencer portrayed by Glen Powell ('Top Gun: Maverick'). And Javi, Addy's friend, played by Anthony Ramos ('Hamilton').

Kate studies tornado patterns safely from her home computer since she had an incident with them years ago, but her friend Javi makes her relive the trauma by taking her to open plains in the heart of Oklahoma to test a tracking system. There, they encounter other expert competitors in the field, as well as Tyler Owens, an influencer known for his dangerous tornado-chasing adventures. But soon the situation takes a turn when the tornadoes intensify, and they must come together to try to survive these powerful phenomena never seen before.

The cast also includes actors such as Brandon Perea ('NOP'), Sasha Lane ('The Crowded Room'), Daryl McCormack ('Peaky Blinders'), Kiernan Shipka ('Chilling Adventures of Sabrina'), Nik Dodani ('Escape Room'), and Maura Tierney ('The Iron Clan'). With a script by Mark L. Smith, the film is directed by Lee Isaac Chung and produced by Oscar Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley.

Trivia

References to the El Reno Tornado

The second trailer of the film shows a water tower that makes reference to the largest tornado ever recorded, the one on May 31 in El Reno, Oklahoma. A place where several people died while investigating these meteorological phenomena and which is the setting of the film.

Same decorations

'Twisters' uses the same sets as other films such as 'The Moon Killers' and 'Tulsa King', shot in central Oklahoma.

Change of location

The shooting location was intended to be in Los Angeles, but the director decided to change it to Oklahoma, as happened with the original film.
