Plot
1893. London is afraid because the murders of the serial killer Jack the Ripper. However, the futurist and writer H. G. Wells (Malcolm McDowell) has other ideas in mind. He firmly believes that the future holds humanity great utopian civilization and he has found the way to probe it. He has invented the time machine. One night, Wells shares his new invention with a group of skeptical friends. Among them is doctor John Leslie Stevenson (David Warner). What nobody knows is that this surgeon is actually Jack the Ripper. When the police is going to catch him, Stevenson steals the time machine and travels to the future. When he finds out, Wells follows Stevenson to San Francisco in 1979. When he arrives, the futurist is bewildered and gets lost in a strange world. Soon, he realize that the future is not the utopia he had dreamt about. In his journey, Wells meets Amy Robbins (Mary Steenburgen) a woman who takes care of him. Meanwhile, Stevenson retakes his crimes following and killing women from San Francisco. Only H. G. Wells and Amy can find him and stop him. Unfortunately the dangerous murderer ends up going after them.
'Time after time' is a classic of science fiction movies directed by Nicholas Meyer, director and writer of 'Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan'.

In love of time travelers
In this film, Mary Steenburgen played Amy Robbins, a 20th Century woman who falls in love with a time traveler from the 19th century. In Back to the future III (1990), she played Clara Clayton, a 19th Century woman who falls in love with a time traveler from the 20th century.
Love story
Malcolm McDowell and Mary Steenburgen met and fell in love while shooting this picture. They were married from September 29, 1980, to October 1, 1990. Director Nicholas Meyer chose to not let them meet before the scene was filmed, to keep their reactions fresh for the scene. He had no idea they would actually fall in love.
Adaptations
The movie is based in the book of the same name of Karl Alexander. In 2016, it was also adapted into a tv series.
