Plot
Karol (Zbigniew Zamachowski) is a Polish-born hairdresser who lives in Paris and who is madly in love with his wife, Dominique, but she leaves him because he has a problem of impotence. Before the French courts, Karol is nothing but an immigrant without rights and does not know the language, so that divorce will happen to the loss of property and the passport being illegally. Dominique decides to denounce falsely burn the hairdresser, so Karol has no choice but to flee the country. Back in Poland, Karol undertakes a successful business and although still in love with Dominique plans to get back at her. "This is a story about the denial of equality. The concept of equality suggests that we are all equal. However, I believe that this is not true. Nobody wants to be the equal of his next. Everyone wants to be more equal." Kieslowski, in his own words, sums up the spirit of the story of its history.
