Plot
'The Yellow Ceiling' is the new documentary by director Isabel Coixet. Four women, Marta, Violeta, Sonia and Miriam, give their testimonies in this documentary, recounting the events that happened when they were between fourteen and sixteen years old. The film tells the story of a group of nine women who denounced two of their Aula de Teatro teachers for sexual abuse. Set in 2018, it is the year in which this group of women decide to denounce the abuses that occurred between 2001 and 2008, when they were still teenagers, but when they do it is too late. Because of fear, shame and the time it took them to understand what had happened, they reported the case when the statute of limitations had expired. However, their testimonies are not in vain: even if the case was closed, their words could have an impact. There have been more sexual abuses, which are not time-barred by the statute of limitations, affecting many more victims.
The film is nominated for Best Documentary at the Goya Awards and Isabel Coixet is the director and screenwriter of the film, produced by Miss Wasabi Films. The documentary 'The Yellow Ceiling' has served as evidence for the Prosecutor's Office of Lleida to investigate the nine cases against Antonio Gómez, director of the center that abused more than fifty girls, and Rubén Escartín.
