The Wonder

Based on the acclaimed novel 'The Wonder' by Irish writer Emma Donoghue. 'The Wonder' is the second film adaptation of a work by this novelist, after 'The Room'. Emma Donoghue is the screenwriter, together with Alice Birch and the director of the film and winner of an Oscar for 'A Fantastic Woman', Sebastián Lelio. Starring Florence Pugh as a nurse who is hired to investigate the case of a girl who hasn't eaten for four months. Completing the cast are Ciarán Hinds, Niamh Algar, Tom Burke, Toby Jones, David Wilmot, Brian F. O'Byrne and Dermot Crowley. Along with all these names is that of the girl who doesn't eat, Kíla Lord Cassidy, who will play Anna, accompanied by her mother, who also plays her mom in fiction, the actress Elaine Cassidy.

The film is set in 1862, in the Irish region of the Midlands. Eleven-year-old Anna O'Donnell says she hasn't eaten for four months, but she is still alive and in good health. Nurse Lib Wright goes to the girl's small town to check on her. The situation of the little girl attracts many tourists and pilgrims who gather before the girl to observe her, due to the miraculous nature of her situation. What will be the reason for this supposed miracle? Is this girl a saint or are the motives even darker?
