Plot
Darren Aronofsky, the director of 'Requiem for a Dream', 'Black Swan' or 'Mother!', among other titles, is back to the big screen with 'The Whale'. This film introduces the story of Charlie, an English teacher suffering from morbid obesity. The illness takes him to dig his own grave, and with that to face certain fears and problems that he has been turning his face to all his life.
The film is based in five days of Charlie's life, played by Brendan Fraser, winner of the Critic Choice Award and nominated at the Golden Globes for best leading actor for this film. During these days we can see how the main character faces certain ghosts of his life: the tempestuous relationship with his ex-wife, the loss of her most reliable friend, the feeling with his students; but his biggest duel will be to win back his daughter's love, which he ignored practically since she was born.
Aronofsky brings to the big screen this adaptation of the book 'The Whale', written on 2014 by the american Samuel D. Hunter. 'The Whale' becomes thus, a reliable representation of a painful path through the guilt of problems he doesn't feel full conscience of until life seems to be almost over. Nevertheless, the hermit-like English teacher will fight as much to redeem himself of all the mistakes, as to manage to save his life.
Fraser is not the only star in the film: Samantha Morton, Ty Simpkins, Sadie Sink, Hong Chau and Sathya Sridharan are also part of the cast.
