The Third Wife

'The Third Wife' is a hyper-stylized fable that takes the viewer to XIX Century Vietnam. A fourteen-year-old young girl is about to get married to a wealthy landlord and become his third wife at home. Little she knows about her hidden inner desires that will make her face a tough dilemma: be free or be alive in that patriarchal world. This is the first movie by Vietnamese female director Ash Mayfair. It has a predominantly female, but unknown, cast to tell a feminist story that could definitely be placed in the current world. The movie was granted Best Asian Film Award in 2018 Toronto International film Festival and Another Glance Award in same year's San Sebastian International Film Festival.
