The Teacher

In 1983, during a Communist period in the former Czechoslovakia, in a school in the suburbs of Brastislava, the arrival of teacher Maria Drazdechova will revolutionize the institution, students and parents. The teacher's peculiar and doubtful pedagogical methods have caused a worrying decrease in the academic efficiency of the students. Moreover, the teacher's corrupt, unethical and professional behavior has led to depression to one student and a suicide attempt on another one. After the situation, the head of the school and the head of studies summon the parents of teacher Drazdechova's students to stop her and request a transfer order to another center. However, Drazdechova is a member of the Communist Party and she has relations with the upper echelons of the party in the city. In fact, she's the political president of the school. A warning from the parents could end up in a serious threat on the part of the teacher, hence the discussion of her behavior becomes a complicated conflict between the parents. Directed by Jan Hrebejk, the film received the prize for best soundtrack and artistic direction at the 54th Gijón Film Festival.
