'The Strangers: Chapter 1' is an American horror film directed by Renny Harlin. The screenplay is written by Alan R. Cohen and Alan Freeland, based on a story by Bryan Bertino. The film follows Madelaine Petsch and Froy Gutierrez as a couple who encounter three masked psychopaths during a road trip. It is the third film in the 'Strangers' franchise and the first part of a trilogy that works as a prequel to the first installment.

Their car breaks down and they are forced to spend the night at an Airbnb, where they are terrorized by three masked strangers. Completing the cast are Raquel Shenton, Gabriel Basso as Gregory, Emma Horvath and Ella Bruccoleri.

Regarding production, it was announced in 2022 that Renny Harlin would direct the trilogy. The project is a relaunch of the original series, with the intention of expanding the universe and telling a bigger story than the previous ones. The producers want the trilogy to be a character study while maintaining the connection to the original films. The production team includes Lionsgate Films, Fifth Element Productions and Frame Film, with several associated producers.
