Plot
Chewbacca and Han Solo (Harrison Ford) travel to Kashyyyk, Chewie's home planet to celebrate Life Day, a sort of Christmas holiday. However, Darth Vader (James Earl Jones), the great Dark Lord, has decided to capture them, preventing them to arrive on time. This special has, in turn, musical numbers, long dialogues and animation with Wookiee language. Based on the Star Wars universe, this special premiered on television on November 17, 1978. In addition, this special featured the same actors from the films. George Lucas refused to direct it and was replaced by Steve Binder and David Acomba. After the first showing, Lucas tried to remove all copies for avoiding its reproduction in the future, but he failed.

Trivia
Mark Hamill had been in a near-fatal car accident a few weeks earlier, and had just had reconstructive facial surgery.
Bea Arthur claimed she only appeared in this special because her youngest was a big La guerra de las galaxias (1977) fan.
George Lucas famously tried (and failed) to buy up all master copies to make sure it was never broadcast again.
