The Seed of the Sacred Fig

In autumn 2022, the death of young Mahsa Amini at just 23 years old sparked a wave of protests across the country as a symbol of resistance against the repression of women. Among these demonstrations, the movements that took place at the Tehran Polytechnic University stand out, where hundreds of protesters fought for their rights.

In this context, we meet the investigating judge Iman, Rezvan (Mahsa Rostami), who lives daily in danger due to the political unrest and conflicts that chant 'Woman, Life, Freedom.' Despite this, he lives his life peacefully, as the government has entrusted him with a gun to protect himself from any kind of trouble.

However, his situation at home changes suddenly when the weapon disappears overnight. Since the culprit does not come to light, Rezvan begins to suspect his wife and daughters. Over time, the tension in the household reaches such a point that the father of the family takes repressive measures to ensure the gun appears once and for all. 'The Seed of the Sacred Fig' is a film written and directed by Mohammad Rasoulof. Germany has selected it to compete for the Oscar for Best International Feature Film at the 2024 Gala.
