Plot
The year is 1971 in Illa de Arousa and although María makes a living by seafood, she is a woman known on the island for helping other women to give birth to their children with special care, attention and dedication.
But after an unexpected event, Maria is forced to flee and begin a dangerous journey that will force her to fight fiercely if she wants to survive. In search of her longed-for freedom, Maria chooses to cross the border along one of the smuggling routes between Portugal and Galicia.
Originally titled 'The Rye Horn' and adapted in Spain as 'O corno', this 103-minute drama film is directed by Jaione Camborda and scripted by the director herself.
The cast includes Janet Novás, Siobhan Fernándes, Carla Rivas, Daniela Hernán Marchaán, María Lado, Julia Gómez, José Navarro, Nuria Lestegás and Diego Anido. The feature film was produced by Esnatu Zinema, Miramera, Elástica Films, Bando à Parte, Bulletproof Cupid, Instituto de la Cinematografía y de las Artes Audiovisuales (ICAA), Movistar+, Programa Ibermedia and Radio Televisión Española (RTVE).
Originally from San Sebastian, its director Jaione Camborda said that the shooting of this film "has been very demanding" and that "she was making the film over a slow fire for four years". The Toronto Film Festival was one of the main festivals where the film premiered and it did so with "very good reception" and "very good reviews".
