The Room Next Door

Pedro Almodóvar embarks on his first film shot in English with 'The Room Next Door', a new production of El Deseo that has confirmed Tilda Swinton, Julianne Moore and John Turturro in the leading cast. Vicky Luengo, Alessandro Nivola and Juan Diego Botto, among others, also star.

Swinton, who already worked with the spanish director in the short film 'The Human Voice', will play Martha, a war reporter. She has a very complex relationship with her daughter, to the point that a misunderstanding ends up opening a serious chasm between them.

In the middle of this schism is Ingrid, Julianne Moore's character, a writer of autofiction novels and friend of Martha. She will be the common person in the life of mother and daughter.

With 'The Room Next Door' Almodóvar wants to talk about friendship, death and sex as palliatives for pain, and how the same war conflict can be seen from very different perspectives.

One of the main settings will be a house in a New England nature reserve. Production begins in March 2024 at locations in New York and Madrid.

Agustín Almodóvar, brother of the director, acts as producer of the filmmaker's long-awaited leap into English-language cinema, his first film since 'Parallel Mothers' and his first work since the short film 'Strange Way of Life'.
