Plot
To celebrate the 200th anniversary of the founding of the Prado Museum, numerous commemorative events and exhibitions have been held. This museum was opened to the public on November 19, 1819 as a "Royal Museum of Painting and Sculpture". This documentary was created in celebration of this bicentenary of the Madrid museum and aims to explore and uncover the history hidden within its walls.
Presented by Jeremy Irons, the documentary analyses the multitude of works that we can hanging from the Prado's walls, as well as the lives of the painters beyond their brush strokes. Las Meninas by Diego Velázquez, The Garden of Earthly Delights by Bosch, The Burial of the Count of Orgaz by El Greco and the extensive collection of paintings by Francisco de Goya make this museum one of the most important in Europe. The voice of the charismatic actor studies the canvases, the colours, the material and the form, as well as everything that is hidden behind this outer layer of meaning. Stories of great men, royally commissioned portraits, luxuries and riches, childhood traumas, madness, purification or religion have been just some of the motivations that have led all the creators whose works are gathered in the museum to produce their most iconic works.
This Italian-Spanish documentary is directed by Valeria Parisi. Mateusz Stolecki serves as head of cinematography.
