Heart attack

Writer/co-director/star Massimo Troisi postponed heart surgery so he could complete the film. The day after filming was complete, he suffered a fatal heart attack.

Ardiente paciencia

This is an adaptation of the novel Ardiente Paciencia (1985) by Antonio Skármeta. In 1983 the writer had already shot a movie of the same name about this subject: Ardiente paciencia (1983).

Almost two years in theaters

Theatrical run in New York City was so long (almost two years), it was still in theaters after the video release and its premium cable run.
