The Play

'Fedra' by Euripides is the play that the main character of 'The Play' wants to direct in a small village in Czech Republic. This is the start of Alejandro González Almendras' movie, a co-production between Chile, Czech Republic and France focused on a young theatre director. His dream is to direct Euripides' play, but the project will only get him a lot of trouble. His marriage will be affected by his relationship with one of the actresses, and the opening is a huge failure. The director will try to move on looking for a way to get back his wife's confidence. Alejandro Fernández Almendras decided to make a movie in Czech because his partner is from there. This film is inspired by Czech Republic's cinema in the 80s, which was focused on small and intimate stories. 'The Play' is shot in black and white. Jirí Mádl, Elizaveta Maximová, Darina Nicová, Marika Soposká y Adam Vacula are part of the cast of this drama that has been presented a the Jeonju International Movie Festival in South Korea and the Festival Internacional de Cine de Valdivia (Chile).
