The Penguin Lessons

Based on true events. Steve Coogan ('Night at the Museum', 'Marie Antoinette', and 'Tropic Thunder, a very dogged war!') plays Tom, a disillusioned teacher who teaches English at a school in Argentina in 1976. Due to his disillusionment and lack of motivation, he accepts the job hoping it will be easy and complicate his life little.

But when he arrives there, he realizes that it is a complex and deeply divided country, with a class full of young students whom he believes it is impossible to teach because they do not want to learn. However, when he comes across a coast full of oil and sees a small penguin, he decides to rescue it, giving a 180º turn to his life.

This animal becomes his best friend and a teacher that will impart valuable lessons that he seemed to be completely unaware of until now. Not only will it change his world, but it will also change the world of his students and everyone lucky enough to know him, altering the way they see things.

The film, written by Peter Cattaneo and Jeff Pope, is based on the book by Tom Michell, 'The Penguin Lessons'. Jonathan Price ('The Two Popes', 'Tomorrow Never Dies', and 'The Wife') plays the director of the school where Steve Coogan teaches. Together, they will experience the adventures and misadventures of this teacher, students, and the animal that become friends after its rescue on the Argentine beaches.
