The movie was thought as a two-parts show. However, Disney proposed to expand it to a movie with nine songs, and Robert Sherman, one of the composers, considered it a mistake. Indeed, the movie didn't have success in the box office or among the critics.

Bing Crosby as the main character
The first option for the role of Grandpa Bower was Bing Crosby, but Disney stepped back and offered the role to Walter Brennan because Crosby demanded a percentage of the box office.
