Plot

Set in 1880 and with the Bower family as main characters, the movie tells the story of their family band and their participation in that year's political campaign. Supporting the democratic party and its representative Grover Cleveland, the Bowers will try to sing a rally song on his favor, but they end up moving to Dakota because it's the home of their eldest daughter's suitor. The eldest of the family, Grandpa Bower, causes great disturbance due to his democratic ideals, for everyone in Dakota supports the Republican party. The solution is trying to create two states, North Dakota and South Dakota, although Cleveland opposes to the plan to avoid presenting it before the Congress. In the end, Cleveland wins the popular vote but it's the Republican Harrison the one who takes the presidency due to the votes from the electoral college, making Dakota residents live in peace.
