The Old Oak

The Old Oak is the last remaining pub in a town in the North East of England. It is a special place for all the community. Not only because it is the last pub in the town, but because it is the last public place where people from the community can meet and talk, which is increasingly scarce due to the decline of the town in these hard past 30 years.

People start to leave the land as the mines close, so the pub's future grows darker. In this way, houses are becoming cheaper and more available, so Syrian refugees find the perfect place to start a new life.

TJ Ballantyne is the owner of The Old Oak, who holds on to the pub like an animal, he does not want to loose his pub. Their situation will be further jeopardized by the arrival of Syrian refugees.

But, in an unexpected friendship, TJ meets the young and curious Siria Yara, who he carries on top of her camera. In this way they will try to find a way for the two communities to understand each other. Thus unfolds a deeply moving drama about their frailties and hopes.

Film directed by veteran Ken Loach and written by Paul Laverty. Regarding the cast, the film stars Debbie Honeywood, Trevor Fox, Dave Turner in the role of TJ, Ebla Mari in the role of Yara, or Jordan Louis, among others.
