Plot
Century XVIII. Suzanne (Pauline Etienne), 16, is sent by her family to a convent where she will have to live as a novice, though this has nothing to do with her true vocation: music.
Although the dream of Suzanne is to live her live free outside the confines of her new home, she ends pronouncing her vows when she discover that is an illegitimate daughter.
So she begin her life as a nun finding solace only in the Mother Superior, who died soon after, leaving Sister Christine (Louise Bourgoin) as successor, a sister whose sole purpose is to make Suzanne's life miserable.
Guillaume Nicloux writes and directs this adaptation of Denis Diderot 's novel in which also stars Isabelle Huppert and Martina Gedeck.

'The Nun' is a film based on the play La Religieuse, written in 1760 by the famous French encyclopedist Diderot, one of the most important figures of the period of the Enlightenment.
Jacques Rivette directed an adaptation of 'La Religieuse' by Denis Diderot in 1966 and premiered in Spain after Franco's death.
'La Religieuse' competed in the 63rd Berlin Film Festival, in the Official Selection in competition.
