The filmmakers said the film is like "a haunted-house movie with a bunch of hormonal teenagers," and they confessed their inspiration were Stephen King's horror storytellers and teen drama filmmaker John Hughes.
Smiley face
A villain in the film wears a smiley-face mask. In the comics, the New Mutants faced off with a mutant supremacy group known as the Right, who wore smiley-face masks.
Horror influences
The filmmakers cite the films 'One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest, 'The Shining' , 'The Breakfast Club' and 'A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors': as an influence on the film's production design, due to the closed-in settings each film used for dramatic purposes.

Starring on the Iron Throne
Maisie Williams is the fourth "Game of Thrones" actor starring on X-Men world. Her friend Sophie Turner playing Jean Grey's character, Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister) was the villain on 'X-Men: Days of Future Past' and Richard E. Grant (Izembaro) was Dr. Zander Rice in 'Logan'.

This film features four members of the original New Mutants group (Cannonball, Mirage, Sunspot, Wolfsbane), with Magik being a member from the second roster.
Veteran
