Plot
Bastian (Barret Oliver) is a child who uses his imagination to isolate of his problems as the recent loss of her mother and the continued jokes about him by his classmates. One day, after getting rid of them, he goes to a bookstore. In there he meets Karl Konread Koreander, a bookseller. During an oversight in the middle of the talk, despite the warning, Bastian furtively takes 'The Neverending Story', due to the cover calls his attention. So, once back to school, he is hiding in his secret warehouse where he reads the book that will take him to Fantasy, a place that is in danger because its habitants are beginning to fade. Nothing is taking over all, and the only solution is to save the Empress. For that mission he will have the help of characters like Fújur, the white dragon of luck or Atreyu, who must overcome the various challenges throughout the book as a link between him and Bastian.

The Nothing
According to the filmmakers, the roiling storm clouds were not meant to actually be The Nothing, but rather an indication of its presence, as The Nothing is an invisible force.
The most expensive
First film for Wolfgang Petersen director and the most expensive film produced in Germany until this year (1984 ).
Unhappy
Author Michael Ende decided that he was unhappy with the film's version of his story, and refused to have his name placed in the opening credits. He also asked if the movie title would be changed or cancelled. After the studio declined both options, he filed a lawsuit and ultimately lost.
