The Monk and the Gun

Kingdom of Bhutan, 2006. The government plans to make a totally radical change. The new form of government will be democratically elected, setting a precedent for the disruption between politics and religion. This change, which will be difficult and slow, starts with an initiation of mock votes so that the population learns to exercise their right to vote. It is in this context that 'The Monk and the Gun' takes place, a film that focuses on a monk who has been entrusted by an old lama with the mission of finding a valuable rifle. The objective of this lama is to use the rifle to keep things as they were; that is, to avoid the imminent change that the Buddhist religion is about to undergo. On his way through the mountains to find the rifle, the monk will cross paths with an American bounty hunter who is also looking for the rifle.

Pawo Choyning Dorji writes, produces and directs this film starring Tandin Wangchuk, Tandin Phubz, Tandin Sonam, Kelsang Choejay and Harry Einhorn.
