Plot
'The Merry Gentlemen' is a Christmas romantic comedy directed by Peter Sullivan with a screenplay by actress Marla Sokoloff, marking her second work as a screenwriter for a feature film. The film stars Britt Robertson and Chad Michael Murray and is a Netflix production, which premiered worldwide on November 20, 2024.
The protagonist is Ashley Davis, a young woman who has spent her entire professional life working as a dancer in the Christmas show "Jingle Belles," something akin to the current Rockettes. Thus, her unique job has meant that the young woman has spent almost her entire adult life without seeing her family at Christmas. When she stumbles during a choreography, she is replaced by a younger girl.
Ashley decides it's time to return home, to a small town in rural America where her parents manage a bar with live music called "The Rhythm Room." The venue has seen better days, but Ashley decides it's time to lend a hand to her parents by creating a sort of Christmas revue with men who dance and end up taking their clothes off.
The young woman recruits well-known members of the community, including the bar's waiter and Luke, a young man who works in the maintenance of the venue, for whom she begins to feel something special...
In addition to Robertson and Murray, the cast includes Marla Sokoloff as Marie, Ashley's sister, while Beth Broderick and Michael Gross play Stan and Lily, her parents. Max Caulfield, Hector David Jr., and Marc Anthony Samuel complete the cast of the dancers in 'The Merry Gentlemen'.
