Plot
'The Man in the White Suit' is an English science-fiction satirical film from 1951 directed by Alexander Mackendrick and starring Alec Guinness.
The plot is focused on Sidney Stratton, a young chemical researcher who's repeatedly fired from his jobs at textile mill because his obsession to finally creating an everlasting fibre. While he's working at the Birnley Mill he invents an incredibly strong and bright fibre that repels the dirt and it never wears out. So he makes himself a brand new suit using that fibre. While he's focused on tell the world about his revolutionary invention, the management and the workers of the textile workshop realize that his invention can put the textile industry out of business so they start planning how to get the secret of his genuine fibre.

The strange noises made by the laboratory apparatus were created by uncredited sound editor Mary Habberfield and produced for the sound track by a tuba and a bassoon.
Alec Guinness performed the stunt of climbing down the side of the mansion. He was convinced by a technician, that twire holding him up would not break but as he was reaching the ground, the wire did in fact break.
