The Last Queen

The story is set in Algeria in 1516, when the pirate Barbarossa decides to free Algiers from the tyranny of the Spaniards, taking over the power of the kingdom. Although there are rumors that despite his alliance, he would have assassinated King Salim Toumi. But against all odds, it will be a woman who decides to stand up to him, that will be Queen Zaphira. The film navigates between legend and history, telling us about the life of this queen, about her struggle and the political and personal conflicts that she had to endure and suffer for the good of her people, Algiers.

The story keeps you hooked throughout the film, with a mix of romance, political drama and personal challenges that keep you on the edge of your seat. And not only that, it serves as a great history lesson as the film tells the history and heritage of Algeria. The direction and the script are in charge of Adila Bendimerad and Damien Ounouri.

'The Last Queen' has a wide cast consisting of Adila Bendimerad, in the lead role of Zephira, the last queen. Also participating in the film are Dali Benssalah, playing Aroudj Barbarossa; Mohamed Tahar Zaoui, with the role of King Salim Toumi; Imen Nouel, playing Queen Chegga; and Nadie Tereszkiewicz, playing Astrid the Scandinavian.
