The Lake House

With the sensation that comes with a change in one's life, Dr. Kate Forester quits her job in the outskirts of Illinois to work in a snowed under hospital in Chicago. Something that hurts her to leave behind is, however, her beautiful house which she has been renting- a wide and high designed masterpiece with large windows which overlook a lake. it is a place that makes her feel totally free. On the way to the city, Katie leaves a note on the postbox for the next owner the house, asking them to send her an email when they arrive and explaining that the paw prints on the side of the door were already there before she moved in.

But when the next tenant arrives, they see it in a different light. Alex Wyler finds the lake house very abandoned, dusty and dirty, and to top it all off the garden is full of weeds. Yet, there are no signs of paw prints anywhere. He doesn't take notice of the note from Katie until a few days later, whilst painting the dock to the lake, a stray dog runs round the recently painted building and enters into the house, leaving its prints exactly where Katie said they would be.

Shocked, Alex writes to her, saying there was no tenant before him and asking how she could have known about the dog. Kate, who had only just left the house a week ago, thinks that he is playing some kind of joke with her and quickly replies to the e-mail, discovering that they are communicating through this postbox with exactly two years apart each other.
