Plot
Ecumenical Jury Prize at the International Cannes Film Festival and won the BAFTA award for Best Promising Actress and David di Donatello for Best Foreign actress for Isabelle Huppert. Béatrice is a fragile, austere, discreet girl who saddens word articulates. The young woman is apprentice hairdresser and she's working with her friend Marylène, an exuberant blonde woman who collects as many men as loving disappointments. One day, the fragile Béatrice meets François, a young student from a good family, who loves, respects and makes her sees the life in a more cheerful way, managing to smile. After falling in love passionately, young lovers decide to live together in Paris, since he must study in the French capital. Things seem simple, she irons the clothes and he studies at the university. But soon the problems of coexistence arise and begin to see the differences of class, culture, the young man begins to be distant with her and Béatrice begins to crumble.
