Plot
American western set in the end of the American Civil War. A Southern woman, Augusta (Brit Marling) is two renegades and drunken soldiers (Sam Worthington and Kyle Soller) who spend their days between episodes of theft and violence. After escaping from an attempted assault, Augusta runs back to the isolated farm he shares with his sister Louise (Hailee Steinfeld) and his slave Mad (Muna Otaru). When the pair of soldiers keeps track of Augusta, the three women are forced to take up arms to defend their abusers and find a way to keep your home safe.
Based on the original screenplay by Julia Hart, the film is directed by Daniel Barber, nominated for Best Short Film Oscar in 2008 for 'The silly woman'.

Olivia Wilde was originally cast in the lead role but dropped out due to scheduling conflicts. Brit Marling replaced her.
Historical period
Contrary to what many reviews have stated, the historical period depicted in the film is not Sherman's March to the Sea (aka the Savannah Campaign) of the winter of 1864, but the Carolinas Campaign during the spring of 1865.
