Plot
Paolo Sorrentino, screenwriter and director of an Oscar, brings us the (auto)biographical story of a young man in Naples, Italy, his anguish and liberation. Sorrentino takes us back to the 1980s, when a 17-year-old Fabietto Schisa is a clumsy teenager trying to find his place in the world in a family that loves life and enjoys mischief and meddling in complicated relationships.
However, one day everything goes wrong when a terrible accident ends the life of his parents due to a gas leak, irretrievably marking his future. That same year the successful soccer idol, a divine sports legend, Diego Armando Maradona, a figure who fascinates Fabietto and a whole troubled city, inspires pride where it seemed impossible for him to feel again. Seemingly saved by Maradona, touched by the hand of God or mere chance, Fabietto struggles with the nature of destiny, the confusion of loss, and the heady freedom of being alive.
'The Hand of God' stars Filippo Scotti, Toni Servillo, Teresa Saponangelo, Marlon Joubert, Luisa Ranieri, Renato Carpentieri, Massimiliano Gallo, Betti Pedrazzi, Biagio Manna and Ciro Capano. Netflix produced and distributed the film. Diego Maradona's lawyer attempt to demand the platform because use of Maradona's image was not authorized.
