Plot
'The fourth kingdom' is a documentary that shows the day after day of the underdogs and illegal aliens of a redemption center on the outskirts of New York. Americans and immigrants live here together. All of them share the lost of the so called "American dream". The Land of Opportunity have neglected them, but they keep going forward with the goal to overcoming the bad times.The documentary explores the lives of four of these habitants. René is an alcoholic who struggles to defeat his addiction, Eugene takes care of the compost to forget the drugs, Pier is an american pianist who picks up cans and Walter is guatemalan who makes special glasses. All of them visit 'Sure We Can' (SWC), a center founded by Ana, a missionary who left Spain 40 years ago. In this place, they can exchange bottles and cans for 5 cents. In SWC and in 'The Kingdom', their neighborhood, their habitants find a place outside a world that have forgotten them.
'The fourth kingdom' is a documentary based on a short film of the same name. Both are directed and written by Adán Aliaga ('Fishbone', 'Noah's Ark') and Àlex Lora ('Self Therapy of an Hispanic Veteran').
The documentary won the Grand Jury Award of Atlanta Film Festival, Best Documentary in Shanghai International Film Festival and the Special Mention in Guadalajara International Film Festival.
