Plot
Drama film directed by Klaus Härö ('Letters to Father Jaakob', 'The New Man', 'Mother of Mine', 'Elina: As If I Wasn't There') and written by Anna Heinämaa.
'The Fencer' tells the story of Endel Nelis (Märt Avandi), a young man who, due to different circumstances, was forced to return to Estonia at the beginning of the 1950s. Once there, Nelis finds work as a sports teacher and begins to show his students one of his passions: the fencing. However, despite finding happiness and the love of the children, Nelis finds serious obstacles to continue with his life and leave behind his dark and mysterious past. 'The Fencer' starring Lembit Ulfsak, Kirill Käro, Ursula Ratasepp and the young actress Liisa Koppel in the role of Marta.
The film was nominated for the Golden Globe award in the Best Foreign Language Film category in 2016 and was selected by Finland to compete in the Oscars the same year.
