The Eight Mountains

'The Eight Mountains' is the new film by the Belgian director and screenwriter, Felix van Groeningen. In this project, van Groeningen is also in charge of the direction and the script, of which his wife, the actress and screenwriter, Charlotte Vandermeersch, is part. In addition, Paolo Cognetti, the writer of the original novel on which this film is based, 'The Eight Mountains', has also participated in the writing of the script. Felix van Groeningen is known for films such as 'The Broken Circle Breakdown', from 2012, or 'Belgica', the feature film that he premiered in 2016 and that was the first nominee for Best Foreign Language Film at the 86th edition of the Oscar Awards. Van Groeningen made his English-language debut with the biographical drama 'Beautiful Boy' starring Steve Carrel, Timothée Chalamet and Amy Ryan. Now, the Belgian director premieres 'The Eight Mountains', a drama that presents us with the story of Pietro, a boy used to living in the city. Every summer Pietro goes to the town of his friend Bruno, the last child who lives in a forgotten town in the mountains, where he spends the summer holidays with his family. Over time, Bruno maintains his fidelity to his people and to his mountain, but Pietro comes and goes, not clinging to it as much. The two will live experiences that will make them stand up to both love and loss. And, with the passage of time, both friends will discover the true meaning of a lifelong friendship.
