Plot
Historical drama directed by the American Alfonso Gomez-Rejon, director of the award-winning 'Me and Earl and the Dying Girl' and a large number of episodes of the American series 'American Horror Story' and 'Glee'.
'The Current War' is a biographical film based on the true story of the confrontation and subsequent competition between Thomas Edison and George Westinghouse in the 1880s to create an electrical system in the United States, and thus be able to control the electricity market and commercialise it both throughout the country and abroad. Nikola Tesla also joined this conflict, which ultimately came to be known and referred to as the 'war of the currents', a historical rivalry to which we owe much of the contemporary electrical system.
This production will delve into the dark intricacies of a business competition that will test all the protagonists and decide the future not only of the United States, but of the electrical system of the entire world.
The film is written by Michael Mitnick, produced by Martin Scorsese and the main characters are portrayed by Benedict Cumberbatch (Thomas Edison), Tom Holland (Samuel Insull), Michael Shannon (George Westinghouse), Nicholas Hoult (Nikola Tesla) and Katherine Waterston (Marguerite Westinghouse).
