The Cordillera of Dreams

Patricio Guzman left Chile more than 40 years ago, at the time when the military dictatorship replaced the Popular Front. However, he did not forget his country and culture.

That is why Guzmán, after filming 'the North' en 'Nostalgia for the Light' y 'the South' en 'The Pearl Button', now acts as director and screenwriter to what he calls"la inmensa columna vertebral que revela la historia pasada y reciente de Chile". 'The Cordillera of Dreams' is a historical investigation, a film essay and an intimate and collective introspection about Chile.

According Variety: "This trilogy is much more than an act of bearing witness. It is living memoir and breathing history and sometimes a dizzyingly high-wire act of philosophical inquiry that, at its close, seems to deposit Guzmán back where it all began, in a Santiago that is unrecognizable from the one he left, even if fringed by the same immutable mountains. How appropriate and how bittersweet that after the suffusingly sad 'Nostalgia for the Light' imagined the stars in the Atacaman sky to contain the banished atoms of Chile?s dispossessed and disappeared, and 'The Pearl Button' took its title from the story of one of its early native exiles, the tentatively hopeful ?The Cordillera of Dreams? should feel like a homecoming".
