Plot
Gabriela Cartol ('Hernán') stars as Evelina "Eve", a young chambermaid in a luxury hotel in Mexico City who works hard to support her four-year-old son. In desperate need of money and an education so that she can move up in the world, Eve chooses cheap snacks in the work cafeteria instead of a full lunch and reacts to difficult daily tasks with a stoic expression, always mindful of what she is working towards: a promotion that will place her in charge of the hotel's 42nd floor. Eve is painfully aware of how she is used by the hotel guests beyond her role as a chambermaid, striking up an unusual relationship with a wealthy Argentinian woman (played by Agustina Quinci, 'Paraíso Rock') who insists that Eve watch her baby whilst she showers every day. Even her co-workers use Eve's own kindness against her as they ruthlessly pursue their own agendas and desire to reach the top. The only relationship Eve has with this people is through her fascination with the objects they behind, the only traces of humanity in an otherwise sterile job.
'The Chambermaid' is an adaptation of director Lila Avilés's own stage play inspired by French photographer Sophie Calle. The play was adapted for screen by Avilés ('Dèjá Vu', 'Nena') and Juan Carlos Márquez.
