The Cakemaker

In Berlin, Oren, an Israeli construction engineer who regularly works on a large project, has a love affair with a German pastry chef, Thomas. The romance does not even seem to have started properly when Thomas discovers that Oren has died in a car accident in Jerusalem. Thomas travels there without knowing exactly what he is looking for. He does find, however, the café owned by Oren's wife, Anat, who soon offers him a job of the most basic, consisting of cleaning and scrubbing pots. Thomas does not reveal his talent until the birthday of Anat's son, when he decides to prepare a surprise in the form of a confection of cookies. This does not sit well with the religious Motti, Oren's brother. To this it must add a simple fact: Thomas is German, the food prepared by a non-Jew is not in accordance with Jewish law and a café in Jerusalem loses customers without the Kosher certificate. Anat, however, is not religious and praises Thomas as the dedicated worker he is and for the pleasure that the growing number of clients has taken to his pastry shop.
