'The Book of Solutions' trivia and fun facts
Lost script
Michel Gondry originally wrote the script in English around 2018. The script remained unused for years on his computer, until it was found by his former assistant.
Casual friendship
Actor change
Gondry first envisioned Adam Driver in the lead role, but then moved the project to France and asked Pierre Niney there.
Premiere at Cannes
It was selected to be screened in the Directors' Fortnight section of the 76th Cannes Film Festival. It had its world premiere there on 21 May 2023.
Aunt Denise
The character of Aunt Denise in the movie is inspired by Gondry's own aunt Suzette, who was the subject of his documentary L'épine dans le coeur (2009). On top of that, El libro de las soluciones (2023) was partly filmed at her house in Villemagne, in the South of France.
Based on himself
Before doing 'Forget About Me!' in 2004, Michel Gondry wrote down in a notebook all the problems he faced during the making of 'Human Nature' in 2001, and the solution to each problem. That's why he says that the main character of 'The Book of Solutions' (2023) is around 70% him.
