The Audition

Anna Bronsky (Nina Hoss) is a violin teacher at a music school for young people in the city of Berlin. One day, and ignoring the advice of his colleges, Anna approves the admission of a student, Alexander (Ilja Monti) in whom he sees a great talent. With a lot of dedication, Anna tirelessly prepares Alexander for the end of the year exam. This will cause his son Jonas, who is also a violinist and ice hockey fan, to be relegated to a sultry background in her life. From there, it will arise a rivalry between both boys. Due to this family conflict, Anna will increasingly move away from her husband, the French "luthier" Philippe Bronsky, putting his marriage at stake. As the audition approaches, Anna will take Alexander to perform increasingly exceptional performances, reaching the point of obsessing so that her student can succeed where she failed. However, on the decisive day, an accident occurs, with serious consequences that will cause a dramatic turn in the life of Anna and those around her.

The film, originally titled 'Das Vorspiel', is the second fiction film of the German director Ina Weisse, after the TV film 'The Archillect' in 2008. Her arrival to the San Sebastian International Film Festival is also the first international recognition in her career.
