The Assistant

Jane (Julia Garner, 'Ozark', 'The Americans') is a college graduate ready to work her way up in the film industry, starting with an administrative assistant job in an influential production company. Jane quickly adapts to the monotonous routine of her job in which she is given all the tasks nobody really wants: fetching coffee, booking flights, bringing food. As Jane is immersed in office life, however, she begins to feel as though something isn't quite right at the top of the career ladder. Beautiful women come and go and are forced to sign non-disclosure agreements. She finds women's jewellery on the floor. Her boss yells at her over the phone for telling his wife the wrong thing. Jane realises that she is working in a man's world where she is expected to stay silent and let the big boss rule. As she considers taking a stand against the injustice, however, she realises just how twisted the power dynamics of the industry are.

Based on the sex abuse scandals across Hollywood, 'The Assistant' is written and directed by Kitty Green ('Casting JonBenet'). Also starring are Matthew Macfadyen ('Succession') Makenzie Leigh ('Billy Lynn'), Kristine Froseth ('The Society'), Jon Orsini ('Generation Um') and Noah Robbins ('Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt').
