The Absolution

Juan Alfredo Amil was born in Arona (Tenerife) in 1981. He is a multi-disciplinary filmmaker, with a specialisation in documentary cinema and telling stories in a very personal and artisanal way. In Spain, he is one of the pioneers in making short films using a mobile phone as a recording medium, one of his most awarded pieces is 'Soy un Héroe'. Amil has made several documentaries, the first being 'Héroes Modernos', awarded worldwide, and the second 'Amargo largo: Entre la leyenda y la historia', premiered on Canarian television.

The director must undergo a routine operation, but this is affected by his condition of morbid obesity. The director decides to make a film about this situation, where his fear of death comes to light. The film ends up being a testimony about his experience and how he collapses, and the only possible solution will be to confront himself. According to the director himself, it is a documentary with Bukowskian characteristics but with his own style.

The script is written by Arianne Cristel Dapena. It belongs to the documentary genre. The director is the protagonist who tells his own story, making it specifically an autobiographical documentary. It is produced by 416 Studio, in co-production with Radio Televisión Española and El Demonio Interior, supported by Televisión Canaria.
